ExperienceI've worked in education and health for over 30 years, qualifying as a counsellor in 1998, after an initial career as a teacher in Birmingham and Sandwell. I have a broad experience of working with people of all ages and from many different backgrounds. I aim to work in a way which values the uniqueness of all the people I encounter.
In addition to private practice I worked as a counsellor in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health team & a GP practice for several years and continue to work for the NHS & other organisations as a supervisor. I have been offering person centred supervision since 2003. I have been practising Tai Chi and meditation for some time and find both a supportive way of calming and focusing the mind, being more able to accept things as they are and developing a kinder attitude towards myself. I have found that using Tai Chi principles informs and develops my therapy practice. I learn with Alan Smith at Heartland Tai Chi School, based in Worcester.
I started learning about Focusing during my counselling studies and have recently completed a training in Focusing which enables me to teach this wonderful process/skill. Focusing has become an essential part of my life, so much so that I'm now starting the Focusing Teacher Training.
Areas of SpecialismI have worked in several settings so have a broad experience of counselling adults of all ages as well as adolescents. The most usual themes of my counselling practice are trauma, stress and depression, sense of self and lack of self confidence, anxiety, bereavement, relationships, work issues, bullying & loss. I often work with issues of identity and the impact of discrimination, chronic illness, trauma and post traumatic stress, abuse, spirituality, personal growth and development.
I hope that you'll feel that I respect you, whatever your reasons for coming to see me.
