Background and Expertise
I've worked in education and health for over 20 years, focusing on counselling since 1997, and have a broad experience of working with people of all ages and from many different backgrounds. I aim to work in a way which values the uniqueness of all the people I encounter. In addition to private practice I worked as a counsellor in a Child and Adolescent Mental Health team & a GP practice until recently and continue to work for the Terrence Higgins Trust & Women's Aid. I have also been offering person centred supervision since 2003. I have been practising tai chi for some time and find it a supportive way of calming and focusing the mind and developing a kinder attitude towards myself. I have found that using tai chi principles informs and develops my therapy practice. I learn with Alan Smith at Heartland Tai Chi School, based in Worcester.
Areas of Specialism
I have worked in several settings so have a broad experience of counselling adults of all ages as well as adolescents. The most usual themes of my counselling practice are anxiety, stress and depression, sense of self and lack of self confidence, bereavement, relationships, work issues, bullying & loss. I often work with issues of identity and the impact of discrimination, chronic illness, trauma and post traumatic stress, abuse, spirituality, personal growth and development.
I aim to work with the whole person and to see each individual as a person, unique, interesting and to be respected in their complexity, whatever their reasons for coming to see me.
Workshops: Working with art therapeutically
One day and half day experiential workshops for counsellors or people using counselling skills are available who want to incorporate art into their work. These workshops have been much appreciated by participants and are an oportunity to relax, play, experiment with new media and develop new ways of working within a safe setting. Please feel free to contact me if you or your organisation is interested in talking further about the possibility of training either on site or elsewhere.
